Quick Answer

Log in to your current registrar → Find your domain → Look for Transfer, Auth Code, or EPP Code in the domain settings → Request or copy the code → Use it at the new registrar to initiate the transfer.

An EPP code (also known as an Auth Code, Authorization Code, or Transfer Key) is a unique password assigned to your domain. It is required to authorise a domain transfer between registrars. Without it, the transfer cannot proceed.

What Is an EPP Code?

  • A random alphanumeric string (e.g., x7Kp!2mN$9qR) assigned to your domain
  • Acts as a security measure to prevent unauthorised transfers
  • Required by ICANN for all gTLD transfers (.com, .net, .org, etc.)
  • Single-use — once a transfer completes, a new EPP code is generated
  • Typically valid for 5–14 days after being requested

Before You Begin

Make sure the following conditions are met before requesting your EPP code:

  1. Domain is unlocked — Disable any registrar lock or transfer lock
  2. Domain is older than 60 days — ICANN requires domains to be at least 60 days old before transfer
  3. Not recently transferred — You must wait 60 days after a previous transfer
  4. WHOIS email is accessible — Transfer approval emails are sent to the domain's admin contact email
  5. Domain is not expired — Expired domains cannot be transferred (renew first if needed)

Get EPP Code from Cynet

Step 3: Unlock the Domain

  2. If it shows Locked, click to disable the lock
  3. Wait a few minutes for the change to take effect

Step 4: Request the EPP Code

  1. Click the Get EPP Code button (may also be labelled "Auth Code" or "Transfer Key")
  2. The EPP code will be:
- Displayed on screen, and/or - Sent to the admin email address on file

Step 5: Copy and Use

Copy the EPP code and provide it to the new registrar when initiating the transfer.

  3. Look for any of these labels:
- EPP Code / Auth Code / Authorization Code - Transfer Key / Transfer Secret - Domain Secret
  1. Unlock the domain first if it's locked
  2. Request or reveal the code
  3. Check your email if it's sent rather than displayed
Can't find it? Contact your current registrar's support team. They are required to provide the EPP code upon request.

Using the EPP Code to Transfer to Cynet

Once you have the EPP code:

  1. Go to cynet.com.my/transfer-domain
  2. Enter your domain name
  3. Add the transfer to your cart and proceed to checkout
  4. During checkout, enter the EPP code when prompted
  5. Complete the payment
  6. You'll receive an email to approve the transfer — click the approval link
  7. The transfer typically completes within 5–7 days

.MY Domain Transfers (Malaysian Domains)

Malaysian domains (.my, .com.my, .net.my, .org.my) follow a different process managed by MYNIC:

  • EPP codes may not apply — transfers use MYNIC's registrar-to-registrar process
  • Contact Cynet support to initiate a .my domain transfer
  • You'll need to provide the domain name and your MYNIC account details
  • Transfer typically takes 3–5 business days

Troubleshooting

"Invalid EPP code" error

  • EPP codes are case-sensitive — copy-paste the exact code, don't retype it
  • The code may have expired — request a new one from your current registrar
  • Ensure there are no extra spaces before or after the code

Transfer rejected or failed

  • Verify the domain is unlocked at the current registrar
  • Check if the domain is within the 60-day lock period (newly registered or recently transferred)
  • Confirm the admin email is correct and you approved the transfer email
  • Check if the domain is expired — renew it first before transferring

Not receiving the EPP code email

  • Check spam/junk folders
  • Verify the admin email in WHOIS is correct and accessible
  • Try requesting the code again
  • Contact the current registrar's support for manual assistance
