If you've forgotten your cPanel password or need to change it for security purposes, you can reset it quickly through the Cynet client area. You do not need your current cPanel password to perform this reset.
When to Reset Your cPanel Password
- You've forgotten your cPanel password
- You can't find your welcome email containing the original credentials
- You suspect your password may have been compromised
- You want to update to a stronger password for security
- A team member who had access has left your organisation
Steps to Reset via Client Area
Step 1: Log in to the Cynet Client Area
Go to manage.cynet.com.my and sign in with your Cynet account email and password.
Note: Your Cynet client area password and your cPanel password are separate. If you've forgotten your client area password, use the "Forgot Password" link on the login page.
Step 2: Navigate to Your Hosting
Go to My Services → Web Hosting and find the hosting plan for which you want to reset the cPanel password.
Step 3: Open the Management Page
Click the Manage button next to your hosting plan to open the hosting management dashboard.
Step 4: Find the Change Password Section
On the management page, look for the section labelled Change Password. This is typically located in the main content area or under a "Quick Actions" panel.
Step 5: Enter a New Password
Enter your new password. Follow these guidelines for a strong password:
- Minimum 8 characters (12+ recommended)
- Mix of uppercase and lowercase letters
- Include numbers (0–9)
- Include special characters (!@#$%^&*)
- Do not reuse passwords from other accounts
Tip: Use a password manager (e.g., Bitwarden, 1Password, LastPass) to generate and store a strong, unique password.
Step 6: Save the New Password
Click Save or Change Password to apply the new password. The change takes effect immediately.
What Gets Affected
When you change your cPanel password, the following are updated:
| Service | Updated? |
|---|---|
| cPanel login | ✅ Yes — use the new password at yourdomain.com/cpanel |
| FTP access | ✅ Yes — your main FTP account uses cPanel credentials |
| SSH access | ✅ Yes — if SSH is enabled on your plan |
| Webmail | ❌ No — individual email account passwords are separate |
| Client area login | ❌ No — client area has its own password |
| Additional FTP accounts | ❌ No — these have their own passwords set in cPanel |
Important: If you use FTP clients (FileZilla, WinSCP) or deployment scripts that use your cPanel credentials, update the saved password in those tools after the reset.
Alternative: Change Password from Within cPanel
If you can still log in to cPanel and just want to update your password:
- Log in to cPanel
- Go to Security → Password & Security
- Enter your current password
- Enter and confirm your new password
- Click Change your password now
Password Best Practices
- Use unique passwords: Don't reuse your cPanel password for other services
- Enable 2FA: Go to cPanel → Security → Two-Factor Authentication for an extra layer of security
- Update regularly: Change your password every 3–6 months
- Don't share: If a team member needs cPanel access, create a separate FTP account or use the client area's one-click cPanel login instead
- Store securely: Use a password manager rather than writing it down or saving it in a text file
Troubleshooting
"Invalid Login" after changing password
- Make sure you're using the new password, not the old one
- cPanel passwords are case-sensitive — type carefully or copy-paste
- Clear your browser's saved/autofilled password for the cPanel login page
- Wait 1–2 minutes — in rare cases, the change may take a moment to propagate
Can't log in to the client area either
If you've forgotten both your cPanel and client area passwords:
- Go to manage.cynet.com.my
- Click Forgot Password
- Enter the email address you registered with
- Check your inbox for the reset link
- Once logged in, follow the steps above to reset your cPanel password
FTP not working after password change
Update the saved password in your FTP client:
- FileZilla: Site Manager → select your site → update the Password field
- WinSCP: Edit your saved session → update the password
- Deployment scripts: Update any hardcoded or environment-variable passwords
Account locked after too many failed attempts
If you tried the old password multiple times before resetting, the server firewall may have temporarily blocked your IP. Wait 15–30 minutes and try again, or contact Cynet support to have your IP unblocked.
